Occoquan Chase 2011

The Occoquan Chase looked more like Occoquanapalooza this year, with traffic back-ups and over-filled parking lots as 366 boats and countless cars descended on Sandy Run Regional Park for another spectacular sunny autumn day of head racing this past sunday. The men's first varsity eight enjoyed another great first-place finish, coming in with a time that was faster than all but one of the college boats' times. The women's varsity eight also finished with a very fast time, coming in an impressive fourth out 28 boats in a race against some extremely competive junior club teams.

In B-CCs winning junior men's eight were: Caelan Collins (cox), Erik Holmvik, Michael Colella, Matt Dutko, Sam Weiner, Shray Mittal, Nate Hodge, Adam Schlesinger, and Sam Murphy. In the women's first eight were: Zena Wolf (cox), Katie Sampson, Lizzie Hook, Sofia Arend, Erin Walk, Abby McIntosh, Charlotte Myers, Naomi Balodemas, and Margaux Carle.

The women's varsity four also raced very well, especially considering that three of the rowers had already raced earlier that morning in an eight. Coming in 9th out of 25 boats were: Maddy Turner (cox), Julia Vasquez, India Scribner, Ruby Smith, and Gyl Weisenfeld.

In the very strong second men's eight were: Nico Judge (cox), Rohan Mittal, Joaquin Rodriguez, , Ian Weaver, Trevor Wind, Joel Rosenblum, David Lougani, Diego Wahl, and Peter Murphy. This boat finished 14th out of 29 boats.

In the women's second eight were: Emma Dauster(cox), Sabina Gudmundsson, Molly Gibson, Katherine Smith, Julia Vasquez, Vanny Stepney, Tamsin Bradbury, India Scribner, and Taylor Joseph. This boat finished very strong in 11th place in this competitive field of 28 boats. In the third eight, in 24th place, were: Phoebe Mejia (cox), Lexi Theiss, Rachel Dick, Natalie Rogers, Sophie Rosenthal, Caitlin Beakes, Vivian Vasquez, Jacqueline Whitford and Sara Katsnelson.

The men's and women's first eights and the women's varsity four will all be heading to Boston this Friday morning to compete in the final and most well-known head race of the season: The Head of The Charles.
