Spring Season Kick-Off Dinner & Registration Sun. Jan. 29

Greetings BCC Crew Families!
Believe it or not, it's time to start planning for spring! We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday, January 29, 2012, from 6:30 to 8:00PM in the school cafeteria for dinner and registration. All athletes plus a parent are expected to attend this important meeting. Anyone who is unable to attend due to extenuating circumstances should contact Sally Colella (sally [at] colellaassociates [dot] com) as soon as possible.

We provide the pizza and ask that you bring the following important items:
1. Two large, chilled bottles of water, sparkling water or juice.
2. A calendar (for reference when signing up for various volunteer tasks).
3. A BCC sweatshirt, jacket or T-shirt--anything in blue and/or gold for team member to wear for a team photo.
4. A checkbook (see below for fees).

Costs for the 2012 Spring Season (*Don't forget your checkbook. Always best to wait to fill in exact amount. All checks to be made out to B-CC Crew Boosters, Inc.):
Dues: $748 ($700 for the spring season and $48 for sandwiches for athletes at regattas). Any outstanding fundraising dues (from wreath sales, etc.) are also due. B-CC Crew wants every student athlete who is serious about the sport to be able to join the team. If financial assistance is needed with team expenses, please contact Sarah Killory (sarah [dot] killory [at] verizon [dot] net) prior to the January 29 meeting.

Uniforms:
All novice team members will need to order and pay for a uniform, which includes:
Unisuit - $85
Tech Shirt - $45
Varsity team members have the option of purchasing a Varsity jacket for $185 as well as any other items they might need including unis, tech shirts and trou.

Optional, fun & fabulous Crew Logo Wear (baseball caps, sweatshirts, pajama pants, etc., with the B-CC Crew logo) will also be on sale.

Parent Volunteers:
The success and terrific spirit of B-CC Crew stems from the many hands that work together to make it all happen. There will be a volunteer sign-up station set up where each family is asked to sign up for three (3) food/drink duties and two (2) tent jobs per rower for the Spring Regattas and for two (2) jobs related to the team dinners.

Help Needed on Sunday, January 29
I am looking for help the night of the dinner. If you could help at one of the stations (uniforms, registration, serving pizza, volunteer sign-ups), I would greatly appreciate it. Please contact me at jenowoody [at] starpower [dot] net.

This is always a fun evening, filled with great energy and excitement as we all look forward to the spring. For novice families in particular, this is a wonderful time to hear from our fabulous coaches and to learn more about this amazing team. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Go Barons!

Important Crew Dates For Spring 2012 and Update on "The Final Sprint"

As we look into 2012,  we want to send you a few more dates to block on your calendars and provide a quick update on "The Final Sprint" fundraising drive for our two new Resolute 8+ boats.

Sunday, January 29 - Kick Off Dinner for Spring Crew Season at B-CC at 6:30 pm

This is the official start of the spring season -- coaches will provide their outlook on the exciting races to come. We will enjoy pizza, complete volunteer sign up, finalize uniform orders and take care of any open registration items. We look forward to seeing you there (attendance for athletes and parent/guardian required) and hope the snow will stay away! During January you will hear more on the kick off dinner from Jennifer Turner (jenowoody [at] starpower [dot] net) and on uniforms from Carrie Smith (carrie [at] trueblade [dot] com) and Sally Carle (gscarle [at] comcast [dot] net).

Monday, April 2- Friday, April 6 – Spring Break (aka Crew Spring Training)
Spring break is at a critical point in our spring racing season and practices (usually 2 a day) are essential for building strength, working on form and testing boat line ups. All athletes (Varsity and Novice) are required to attend practice during spring break. Because we double up practices during this time period, missing spring break means that an athlete will miss almost 25% of planned spring practices. A more detailed schedule will be forthcoming form the coaches closer to the beginning of April. There are Regattas scheduled at the beginning and end of Spring Break, March 31 at home and April 7 at St. Andrew's in Delaware.  If you have questions on this, please reach out to our liaisons, Deb Jospin (djospin [at] comcast [dot] net) (boys) or Ginny Beakes-Read (read [dot] ginny [at] gmail [dot] com) (girls).

Saturday, May 5 – Live and Silent Auction at Foley and Lardner in Washington Harbour Plaza
This fun-filled evening will take place at the stunning offices of Foley and Lardner, in the Washington Harbour Plaza, on "K" Street, above the Sequoia Restaurant. All parents/guardians and their friends are welcome to enjoy sweeping views of the Potomac, from the Kennedy Center to Key Bridge. Plan to join us  in enjoying live music and delicious refreshments while celebrating and supporting B-CC Crew.

Friday, June 1 – Spring Picnic, Candy Cane City
We are moving the picnic to the weekend following Memorial Day this year. Come and celebrate the season's end as we send off our seniors.

Almost Over The Finish Line on "The Final Sprint"
Thanks to support from a number of families we are making great progress — we are 70% of the way to our threshold goal of $4,000. If you would like to take part in the special, tax-deductible opportunity to support the acquisition of two new Resolute boats, one each for the girls and boys, please let Sally or another board member know. Payment terms are flexible and we are grateful for any amount.
